Career Spotlight with Kath Martin

Kath Martin, Data Vendor Management Lead at TauRx

What do you do at TauRx?

I am the Data Vendor Management Lead within Clinical Operations and have overall responsibility for the team overseeing vendor management activity for the collection of study data in TauRx clinical trials. These activities include collection of patient data from clinical trial sites into a study database, which may also include brain scan data (such as MRI and PET), memory test data and blood sample data.

What does your typical day involve?

A lot of discussion with the team and colleagues overseeing activity, budgets, work planning, making decisions and reviewing data and study documentation.

What do you think are the most important skills for someone in your role to have?

In this role, it is important to be a strong knowledgeable communicator, to be able to break down and define the goals of the company into what the team need to achieve and outlining the plan on how to do that. It is important to be able to analyse and understand detailed information but also step back and see the bigger picture. I am passionate about TauRx and that keeps me driven to deliver the results.

Do you work mostly on your own or as part of team?

I manage a great team of staff and contractors, and we all work closely together.

What do you enjoy most about working at TauRx?

I have always loved the science and the data. I enjoy the diversity of the daily challenges and the opportunity that this has given for me to develop both personally and professionally.

It is wonderful to work with people who believe we can really make a difference in the field of dementia, many of whom have devoted years trying to make this happen.

Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?

I have set myself the challenge of running the Edinburgh Half Marathon on the 29th of May 2022 in aid of Alzheimer’s Scotland. I will certainly need to do a lot of training and will be dusting off my running shoes, as it has been a while since I ran that kind of distance!
