Career Spotlight with Roxanna Boyd

Roxanna Boyd Archivist at TauRx

What do you do at TauRx?

I am the Archivist at TauRx. This means I’m responsible for the on-site document archive, maintaining oversight of records archived by various vendors and of archived Investigator Site Files (ISFs), for the retention of electronic records.

I work closely with the Archive Working Group which has representatives from various functional groups within TauRx. We discuss ongoing archiving activities, ways to improve archiving and work together to resolve any issues that come up.

What does your typical day involve?

A typical day can involve checking and recording the temperature and humidity of our archive cabinets, answering queries from colleagues, looking for access to documents that have been archived, maintaining various trackers, arranging record transfers between vendors and writing plans and reports for these. Because TauRx work with vendors and clinical sites all over the world, the record transfers I arrange may come with added challenges such as customs restrictions and declarations, language barriers and time differences.

What do you think are the most important skills for someone in your role to have?

My role requires strong communication skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, and being proactive in researching the best way to carry out a task if it is something new.

Do you work mostly on your own or as part of a team?

A combination of both. I carry out a lot of tasks by myself however I also work closely with many colleagues including the Records Management and Archiving (RMA) team and the Archive Working Group.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the variety that my role brings, often new tasks and challenges arise so it’s never boring. I have great colleagues and friends at TauRx which makes it a great place to work! I also like thinking about the bigger picture of what TauRx has achieved and how we have the potential to help so many people.
