The awareness week offers an opportunity to continue to shine the spotlight on dementia, the care system, and the need to strive towards continued research into this disease, affecting over 50 million people globally. More information on the day is available below.
Dementia Action Week, organised by Alzheimer's Society, will take place this year 17-23 May. The national event, aimed at raising awareness of dementia care, will encourage the public to "take action" to improve the lives of people affected by dementia and "call on the Government to rebuild the social care system in 2021". Coronavirus and inequality to fair access of care will be the focal point of the week. Over a quarter of all Covid-19 deaths in the UK have been people living with dementia, the pandemic has clearly impacted people living and affected by the disease and highlighted weaknesses in social care provided for people with dementia.
You can show your support to this important week by ordering or downloading materials from Alzheimer Society website here and support people living with dementia by promoting the event on social media using the hashtags #DAW2021 and #CureTheCareSystem.
